You know, that little application you use to remove flash drives and other removable media. The one down by the clock.

That is pretty scary....what happens if my wife or kid hits it by mistake. How do I get rid of that option?

    Hello Monster ... ... !

I had the same on a computer that I built for a friend. It is based on a Gigabyte GA-K8NX U-SLI motherboard and it happens when "a specific driver" is installed. I say "a specific driver" because I don't remember exactly which but it makes SATA hard disks hotswap-able. All this assumes that you have a SATA hard disk but rest assured that Windows won't allow you to shut down and remove the hard disk onto which it is installed (I tried so, I know).

Thanks Chris. Good to know windows is smart enough not to kill itself (well, at least in this instance anyway).

I do have SATA drives. My other sata drives are listed too...my back up raid1 drive on F: shows up too.

I wonder if windows would remove that drive?

I'm not familiar with RAID in any form or shape so, I cannot guide you on that issue.

Windows would probably let you shut down and remove any non-OS hard disk but how it would "manage" things on a RAIDed system, I don't know.
