    Hi everyone,
I have bought a new laptop..its now less then a month old and has been working fine since i bought it..Though the other day i thought i would be good and clean it up a bit by doing the disc clean up and the disc defragment as i always do it on my desktop computer regulary!! But since i defraged it ..It wont come on anymore..It will start up saying something along the lines of "Sorry for the inconvieniance but windows is unable to operate ".

It has options to start windows normally..start from last known settings..safe mode ..safe mode with networking and safe mode with command prompt! I have tried all of these and it wont load further then the windows loading part!

The only part i can actually get into is pressing the F2 button to get into the settings..but i dont know if there is anything in there that i can do to fix it??

I am in the process of moving and have been really busy..otherwise i would have already taken it into the shop i bought it from..so i thought i would ask you all first and maybe we will be able to rectify the problem..i hope!! Thank you all for your time!

Do you have the Windows XP disc, if so place it in the disc drive and reboot. After the first couple of screens you will be given some choices, click on Repair and let it run.

If all you have is a recovery disc then run that from a reboot and it should return your system to the factory settings.

Hi missa85, It would help if you Posted the full info on your laptop and the Operating System you are using. If it's new - it could be Win7?

Without some kind of input device I don't know what to suggest, other than returning it to the shop you bought it from.

The only method I can think of is removing the hard drive and connecting it to another computer but that would invalidate the guarantee.

It must have a Recovery Partition on the HD. Have you any instructions on how to access it?

I have tried to get some information from the manufacturers site but it seems no manuals are available to download, do you have one. Somewhere in the manual it should tell you how to boot into safe mode using one of the 'F' keys, try F8. You need to keep tapping the key from the moment you switch it on. It should display a list of options, this might display an option to 'Recovery' or 'Restore' which you should select, if not, there should also be a choice for 'Safe Mode'.

If you get into safe mode then follow these instructions.

If you can't get into safe mode then I think the only choice left will be to return the machine to the shop.

With a CD drive fitted this problem would be much easier to get around. Fitting one would also be very usefull for back ups, etc. Unless the hard drive can be removed and connected to another computer you will loose all your saved data during the recovery process.

If you can boot into safe mode but cannot find the Recovery facility it may be possible to run 'check disc' which may fix the issue.

Click Start then Run and type chkdsk /r into the box and click enter. This will then tell you it cannot run but will do after a reboot answer yes and then it should reboot and run the check. This could take over an hour to complete but keep an eye on the information displayed on the screen, don't worry if it appears to have frozen, this is normal.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi missa85, I see the old word assume has caught someone again. When you purchased the Netbook, you assumed everything would be sweet.

When/if you take it back to the Retailer, make a list of all that you would like to know about the Netbook. ie. How do I recover from a Freeze?
Have I got a recovery system?
How do I get to it?
What do I need to do to restore the OS?
Where is the operators Manual? etc. etc.

I found on Google that a guy was talking about cloning the OS to a flash drive in case of major problems. He had purchased from Harvey Normans in NZ. You might find it worth investigating. Cheers Neil.:)
