A few years ago my hard drive was irrevocably damaged and I had a new drive installed. I'm considering reinstalling Windows again and am just wondering if my computer product key will have any problem in being validated during reinstallion if it's detected that the present hard drive is not the original one. I suppose I'll find out if I start the process, but I thought I'd save myself any possible grief by finding out if anyone out there had an opinion.

    Many thanks.:)

Go ahead & install windows. If the auto validation fails, you can always call up Microsoft & tell them that you are changing the hard disk. They should give you the proper codes to feed.

If its any help. I have installed my Windows XP on several different hard drives, as my system has been modified, and never had a problem with validation.

With Vista and Windows 7 it may be a different matter.
