I am trying to run Corel Video Studio HD editing software on an underpowered xp machine and Corel have suggested that before buying a new machine I could try creating a new administrator profile in windows with no other programs apart from VideoStudioX3 in it.
I have created a new profile by following help which suggested I copy "Profile1 (default)" but it has all the usual programs in it and if I delete one from my new profile it deletes from the old one too (hardly the desired result!)
Any help on how to do this would be much appreciated.

    Hi gullrock,

Yes,Corel is right - video procesing requires a lot of resources and should
preferably be done on a dedicated machine.
Creating a new profile doesn't really solve this as you found out.
There are too many interactions between the profiles.

Ideally ,you should install XP on a separate partition and tune it to exclude
    all unnecessary services and programs.
Problem with this approach is that you require a separate XP license.
Cloning existing setup and tuning it wil possibly result in the same lic requirement.
Running in a virtual machine is not the answer either, because the VM runs
on top of the main OS and therefor stresses the hardware even more.

My suggestion is to use another approach.
There are only a few programs I know of that could do the job (Other readers
    may know different setups)

    My personal choice: HyperOS http://www.hyperossystems.co.uk/
    Also here http://www.hyperosshop.co.uk/hyperosonclick.htm
    http://www.hyperosshop.co.uk/shop/contents/en-uk/d47.html
This "program" clones your system and each clone is independent from eachother and the "master" .No licensing problems either.

Their support is somewhat spotty ,but there is a support forum.

The other one is iCore Virtual Software (free) only works on XP SP3
(though it ran fine for me on an XP SP2 system)
    http://icoresoftware.com/
Creates 3 more accounts but is somewhat interacive as to core Services and processes. It's good for testing and safe internet usage though.

But for what you have in mind ,I would think HyperOS is the way to go.
You don't have to use all of the created clones ,just the ones you need.
There may well be other choices or suggestions -let's see what comes up:)

    Pete.

Thank you DiggerP, I have had a look at your suggestion and think that fo rme it is a bit on the complicated side. I have pretty well decided to upgrade my pc to a quad core 6gb machine as my current one is 5 years old already, but thank you anyway.

    Hi gullrock,
You're welcome, but you're right ,a more powerful machine will make an easier job of it as to resources.

As to complexity of HyperOS - I doubt that is is more complex than Corel's
video editor. It's just a simple install and then you do the clone(s).
It is useful for situations like yours and audio editing as well.
Plus of course also for trying out new software or an isolated environment
    for safe web browsing.

Keep it in mind - it will run on a new system as well as it would on the older one with the same benefits.

    Pete.
