Hi - new problem with old computer here. I'm unable to get Windows to boot up, not even in safe mode. It keeps looping around but never actually starts. I tried researching old posts but haven't found the info I need - tried F8, tried the XP Log On/Log Off Loop Fix and still nothing. It's an HP running SP2, AMD Athlon 64, don't remember all the specs - sorry, I've had it a while. Regular start up gets you the black screen with several choices (Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, etc), none of which work. Hitting F8 gets you the advanced menu and you end up at the blue screen that says the problem is an "Unmountable boot volume ". Any ideas? As always, TIA - you guys rock!

The link you posted will allow you to create a set of six floppy disks that can be used to boot your computer. Those will allow you to do a clean install or a repair install (using an XP setup CD). They will also allow you to invoke the Recovery Console for repairing an existing installation. If you were only able to create one disk, you will need to try again.

If you did get all six floppies created and your computer doesn't boot to them, you will need to enter the BIOS setup routine and set the boot sequence so that it tries to boot the floppy drive before all others.

Sorry for the late reply - took me a few days to locate an XP installation disk. Anyway, I followed the instructions, did both chkdsk /p and chkdsk /r - and still nothing. Goes right back into the blue XP set-up screen rather than rebooting into Windows like it should. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks for the help, guys - everything is fixed and it's running smoothly again. Not sure how to mark this "Resolved" though!
