I am running windows XP, the problem I have is that my computer will not recognise my new phone, camera, external memory drive even a simple memory stick. I had a guy come round to look at it but after two hours he gave up, he down loaded and up dated my drivers but to no avail. Any idea's.

    Best Regards Mike

the drivers are part of windows

    try removing the filters
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461

    USB reset

in the device manager click on view at the top and in the dropdown
    show hidden devices
then uninstall all listed usb items
    turn the computer off
    unplug usb plugs
    reboot twice
    replug in the usb plugs

It seems your motherboard (bios) is not configured correctly, or your windows drivers somehow got corrupted. check in your MoBo's manual to see how to access it's bios options. and make sure that your onboard usb options are enabled.
1.You should try and update your BIOS
2.Go to Device Manager and try updating drivers

Thank you again, but that goes over my head a bit, but I have tried going into device manager and updating drivers. I think you are right about my drivers getting corrupted as a old memory stick still works, and also a old camera.
