My XPPro SP3 display theme is set to Windows Classic, so the background color of the Taskbar and Windows borders etc etc is battleship grey.

Does anyone know of a way (I'm assuming it'll be at Registry level) of changing the grey to some other color?

Obviously, I could change the entire theme but I don't want to do that; all I want to change just the grey and nothing else.

    Thanks :)

tashman847, thanks. But that's not the answer. I realize that your link leads to a supposed fix for the "Taskbar" but it only affects the Title Bar, which I guess is to be expected when the fix is specified for the color of the "Active Title Bar ".

Maybe this has another effect when the Windows XP Theme is in use, but as I said, I'm using Windows Classic and the fix doesn't change the Taskbar, only the Title Bar.

    Try .....

Display Properties > Appearance > Advanced > 3D Objects - top of the dropdown list.

retiredlearner, thanks but no, that's not it. They're talking about adjustments to the XP Theme, it doesn't work for Windows Classic.

But PeteC got it right. Thanks Pete, that's exactly the adjustment I was looking for :)

BTW, for anyone looking to improve the performance of most computers (XP or Vista - haven't looked at W7 yet) go to My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Settings and change the default from 'Best Appearance' to 'Best Performance'. There are several other adjustments that'll make your machine faster and more efficient, but this one has an instantly noticeable effect.
