At present, into my folder "documents and settings" there are 4 sub-folders :
Administrator, All users, Default user, user.
Up to now I haven't had any problem with people in my family using or having a look into my laptop. (we are 3, with 4 computers + one ipod touch.)
    There were no passwords.
Recently, I changed my mind, There are too many personal data inside.

Which is the wiser an simpler, (step by step) way to arrange users, person names, passwords,
for a home wireless use ? Is there a complete and simple manual to learn such
things? The help provided in the system is very often obscure.
Thanks to anybody who can help, Paolo de Magistris, Rome Italy:)

Hi demaag, Have you looked in User Accounts? Start > Control Panel > User Accounts. You may have to wait for a Moderator to catch up with your request, but if you expand out the sections in User Accounts you should be able to follow setting up separate Accounts with Password protection. G'Day demaag,

Do we understand that you are using the simple windows network on "WorkGroups" ? over your wireless network and that all except maybe one is using RJ45 network cable to connect to your Cable or ADSL ISP connection ?

Please explain your network a little better.

Also, are all Computers using the same Operating System, and if they are or not, which Operating systems are they on and what level Service Packs ( ? SP2 or sp3 ?)

Have you performed any Microsoft Updates on any of your PC's ? i.e. Operating System, software and driver updates ?

Oh yes, and what language is being used ? i.e. Regional Settings.

The reason I ask all these questions is for anyone on this forum to understand the situation better, as it is difficult to understand otherwise. Also can you please complete the System Information in your User CP for. you can't for all the computers, - however it would be good if you could complete these details for the Main Computer.

How many user account do you want to have on each computer and what individual names would you like to use (names are for personalization and ease of identification for the Users and you as an Administrator)

By the current description you are giving, it points to a poor setup (looks like the default that a Retailer performed without any personalization) when they sold it to you !

The "documents and settings" there are 4 sub-folders: Administrator, All users, Default user, user - suggest this, whereby personalization would have turned the last 'user: into your name, e.g. " Paolo" just as an example.

The default setup also indicates to me that the parameters and options maybe lacking in optimization of the facilities and other options to enhance the utilization of the Windows System.

As a general link to these type of instructions, you might like to look at these from Microsoft - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/winxp/default.mspx
