Resolved ScRegSetValueExW call failed(access is denied)

Hi,
Each time that I log on, the Event Viewer registers the following error. I appreciate if someone could tell me what is error is all bout and how the problem could be resolved:

Event Category: None
Event ID: 7006
Date: 7/20/2009
Time: 1:02:36 PM
User: N/A
Computer: FAMILYROOM
Description:
The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for Type with the following error:
Access is denied.

 

Everything in my pc is working and your response wasn't helpful.

A bit rude, don't you think? If googled, you could have found out that the error is

The error meaning is that something tried to access a section of the registry it's not allowed to.

Common causes:
Anything installed/uninstalled or updated that required registry/registration access. Unfortunately it was not able to access. Maybe a rights issue or software issue. Most likely an issue that can be ignored if you are not having problem. The event is meant to be informative.

Since you have stated that

I would ignore it for now.

If you are truly curious and want the root cause resolved then you may have to play detective and explore what may have changed within the time the event notification reflects. Check out other events, look for application errors, device manager driver errors.

When I googled this, I did note that this error was reported to be often caused by a virus program update. Some ignored it and it took care of its self. Some noticed virus program became problematic and had to take further steps to resolve that issue.

The long and short of it is, it can be caused by many things and unless you figure out what it is by a self exploratory or some as yet unknown problem rears it's ugly head in a more specific and clear manner, you can ignore it.

Your welcome and I'm sure this boards members would be happy to help further but the error is generic/not very informative and there's not much more to go on. It's kind of hard to pin this down when all is well with the computer thus far.

Your suspicion on virus programs was quite correct. The root of this nasty problem was the earlier build of Kaspersky Internet security 2010. After their critcal update to build 9.0.0.463, the problem was totally resolve. So everyone must consider this case resolve.
