Red face Is the .net framework necessary?

Hello. (I was using Windows XP SP3- ie 7 now I guess- I just re-checked) Anyway, I'm getting the important updates notification regarding the .net framework that's come out recently. I did a small amount of reading about it on the microsoft site. It seems to be for developers...? I'm thinking I might have downloaded the .net framework at one time without fully knowing what it was- as I'm not a developer and mainly use my computer for study and games. So I'm wondering if I can just go to add/remove programs and delete it? Because I'm pretty sure it didn't come with my computer I don't need it do I? Thank you. (I looked for help at the microsoft site but tech support seems to be a billable service So I appreciate ay suggestions anyone might have for me)

Hi lydianon. Welcome to Windowsbbs!

Read this, What is .Net Framework.

Some Windows applications do require it such as drivers and some games. I would leave it installed otherwise you may find that some of your programs won't function properly.

Your Welcome. Yes I would install any updates for .net framework that are available. I have .net framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 installed on my system and I haven't had any problems with anything.
