    See System Infected http://www.windowsbbs.com/malware-virus-removal/84460-resolved-system-infected.html

I lost some fuunctions during the above problem with my computer and need help restoring them, This is what I have found so far, tools under system tools under accessories, icons under users accounts. Is it possible to restore these things. I lost many programs, don't know where to start with those.
    Thanks for your help,
    Dee

Hi deester. The first thing I would run would be the system file checker. Click Start< Run and type sfc /scannow and press enter.

Note that there is a space between the c and the / in the sfc /scannow command.

To restore the missing System Tools Read this, Restore missing shortcuts under System Tools. :)

Thanks Evan for replying. I did as you suggested and it is asking me to insert a CD. I have system tools shortcut but all I have under it is IE.

It asks you for Windows CD.
It also means, some system files are messed up.
    It happens with an infection.

    You need Windows CD.
To just run sfc fixes, you can use borrowed CD, if you don't own one.
However....sooner, or later, everyone needs one...

I have Dell Reinstallation CD that I had for my Inspiron. The computer I am working on is a Dell Latitude. It is XP service pack 2, this computer has been upgraded to a service pack 3. Can I use it, also how will I know when I get to sfc fixes? I have never done this before so I'm showing ignorance.

No, reinstallation CD won't work. Only Windows XP CD.
sfc will display message, if it needs to replace some file. That's why it asks you for the CD.
There is no other way around.

Found an XP CD and ran the scan, rebooted the computer and there was no change. Did not restore anything.

Were you able to restore the missing System Tools shortcuts in the start menu? Also can you give me more information about what other windows functions you are missing?

Under accessories, there is system tools, when I click on system tools, there are no tools, the only thng there is Internet Explorer.
When I go into Users Accounts in Control Panel and want to change the picture for each account, all the standard pictures are gone.
Is this any better for you?
I put the CD in during the entire scan, was that the correct thing to do?

Got the system tools done. I have to call Dell tomorrow about some software, I have a contract that ends this month so I may as well use it. I'll ask them about the users account, they will be accessing my computer, they may or may not help me since this not a soft ware problem. Will update you after I talk to them. thanks for your help.
