Every time my nephew boots or reboots his computer, the Personalized settings box appears upper left on the desktop and sets the personalized settings for everything from Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Fax, Desktop update and numerous others. Also, the Tour Windows XP Icon appears as if a new install. The computer is running XP Home SP3. Please help, as the boot process takes several minutes for these settings to apply.I've run Malwarebytes successfully several times but his McAffe Security center won't update. He's told to reinstall the McAffe suite.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

It's possible his Windows User Profile is corrupt.

Wouldn't hurt to try creating a new one.

I took your advice but went along a little differently. Instead of creating a new user profile, I simply deleted the 3 ntuser.*** files in the current profile and rebooted. The reboot created a new profile based on the settings just prior to the reboot. Everything is now working fine. Thanks for the help.
