virtual memory leak with svchost.exe file

This post is related to one that I posted a few weeks ago about low virtual memory using windows xp. I have a new hp pavilion 760n with 120 gig drive and 512 mb of ddr sdram. Since I bought this machine a few months ago I have been geting a message of low virtual memory after about 30 to 45 minutes of use. With the help of this forum (thanks newt) and hp tech support, I've narrowed the problem down to a file called svchost.exe. There are actually four svchost.exe files listed in the windows task manager, but only the one labeled "local service" is causing the problems. When I open the windows task manager and click the processes tab, I can see this file continuously gobbling up memory, until after a half hour or so it starts maxing out the pagefile. When I click the performance tab and look at the page file graph, it gets maxed out at about 1.46 gb after the same ammount of time. If Iclick "end process" to delete the file from windows task manager, the page file use drops to normal levels but the CPU usage goes up and the computer sounds like it is continuously searching the hard drive. I cannot permanently delete this file. Does anyone know what this file is and why it is using more and more memory? Is it related to a software program or in the windows operating system? I'd appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks.
