I'm getting this message now when I reboot.

"The system could not log you on. Make sure you user name and domain are correct, then type your password ". I then click OK, then click on user and it starts up. My computer is not part of a network. Behind the box to click ok, you can see a box that says Administrator as user name and **** as password.

How do i get rid of this. I've already looked in user accts. There's no password in there.

This is maybe a longish shot, but it will do no harm to the computer .....

Intsall the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service from MS and see if that resolves the problem.

I installed it and restarted my computer. Nothing seemed to happen, I have the same problem. Should I see a log somewhere?

I did say it was a long shot :)
No - it is a Windows Service, but if you look in Event Viewer > Application you should see an event for UPHC .....
User accounts are not a strong point with me as a single user, but I would not exclude the possibility of a corrupted profile.

However I think you should hold fire on doing anything in the hope that some other member will chip in here.

Ok it's fixed, I 'm not sure how. i did this:

Open the Run dialog box (after closing the Registry Editor, of course), type control userpasswords2 and click OK. The User Accounts dialog box will appear on-screen.

Then i changed the word owner to my name. When I tried to open user accounts, it was empty and I got some message, "the current use acct is not recognized ", restart the computer. I thought now maybe I wouldn't be able to get on at all. I then shut down and I got a message that windows was installing updates, will shut off automatically. Then when it started up it was fine. Don't know if it was the change I made or the updates.
