    I have a question. I just bought a IBM xSeries 235 P4 XEON 2.66Ghz 512Mb Computer Server, then I went and got a IBM 36.4 GB 15K Ultra320 Disks 32P0734 w/ Hot Swap Tray.

    I went to install Windows Xp Professional on it for now, until I go and get a Windows Server O/S. Started to to setup XP and then it gave me this error: "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer." Then I went into the HUGE BIOS that is in this system and did a complete test on everything, it all passed. HD was there, CD-Rom, etc all there.

    So I went to IBM to find drivers for the SCSI I got; in which I can not find any there and looked on the net, again nothing that I found.

    Question(s):
    1. Can Windows XP be installed on that server?
    2. Can anyone help me find drivers for the HD?
    3. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance,
    DMT

    Sorry about that Admin. Also thank you for placing the thread in the right area for me.

    Thanks for everyone who replied.

    Wildfire, Ive done that and still nothing. I getting the error "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer "

    Ive looked here as well: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313348
    It just gave me a bunch of information, but no downloads to fix the issue.

    I am going to see if I can buy a windows server o/s. Maybe that will work instead.

    Head over to http://www.driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/ & check if your hardware is listed in Mass Storage pack. If it is, just download everything & make a slipstream Win XP disk [read the forum on how to do it] and install from it. Most of the drivers would be picked up & installed automatically.

    i know for a fact it will work if you load the correct drive via floppy during the setup. xp can use 2003 drivers.

    DMT you don't need to download a specific driver from driverpacks.net. You download everything, follow the instructions & burn a new Win XP cd with all the drivers on it. It does not support download & install of a specific driver.

    Since it is a server class machine, I very much doubt if IBM would provide drivers for desktop class OS [XP/Vista] for this machine.

    Last time I worked on SCSI (not recently :)), the HDDs are numbered, via a jumper. You install (installed?) the OS on number 0 or 1 HDD.

    Look at the specifications for the server. Go to the manufacturer of the SCSI controller. They should offer a download of a utility to examine the drives and setup.

    The drives may have been set-up/partitioned on a different OS to Windows.

    SCSI is not like IDE or SATA. I think you will need to research how it works (I know I would need to update my research on SCSI if I were to work on it again :eek:).

    Thus far I've taken bilbus advice and I've download two drives for the SCSI, last night. So after breakfast and some coffee, I will run them two and see if that will work.

    @ risinfor:
    I'm starting to believe that is the case. I bought a Windows Server 2008 O/S and it will be here within 4-5 days. Hopefully it will make a BIG difference.

    @Mattman:
    When I got the Ultra320 SCSI, I didn't mess with the junpers, nor did it state on the SCSI how setup the jumpers. So I left the jumpers only and place the SCSI one up from the bottom. Also I wouldn't know how to install it on 0 or 1 HDD.
    This type of system or as rsinfo would call it server class machine, is this very first one I have worked on. However the Ultra320 is the first HDD installed on the machine.
    Yes mattman, I see that SCSI isn't like a SATA or IDE, believe me I've looked for converters. :D
