Explorer.Exe Application Error

Although I'm in need of help badly, my manners will not take a back seat. Happy NEW YEAR to all and hope you and yours had a wonderful holiday season!~

Here's my issue/problem, was in the middle of moving files between external drives and downloading files from the internet then "something" happened which caused me to reboot. Since then, getting the following error message when attempting to open Windows Explorer (to view my files):

EXPLORER.EXE - APPLICATION ERROR
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005) click OK to teminate the application.

In addition, I'm unable to open Internet Explorer...when I click the icon, nothing happens. I can use Mozilla which I'm using now to request HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!

Aloha,
marc

My System

I believe some explorer add-in has been added to Windows Explorer which crashes, taking Windows explorer with it.

Reboot in safe mode & confirm whether you can use explorer from there.
Run chkdsk /f on hard disk.

Also clean out trash from your computer- use either ATFCleaner or CCleaner.

Update your av & spyware utils & scan your computer.

You mentioned "to view my files" Is it perhaps video/movie files?

I've often noticed how faulty codecs would crash exporer when they try to decode the movie for the thumbnail view. A easy way to conrifm this would be to put exporer on "detail view" and then open the folder containing the files.

There might be more hints in the application/system log of the event viewer.
