(1) After restalling OS, task bar give me problems. Although I can select the proper size, etc., of my icons on desktop...the icons in my task bar are just too darn large! My taskbar is about 1" high..cannot change it. Tried changing display, etc., but either I get it so small cannot read or too large. Changing resolution does nothing (to task bar).
(2) I cannot use the mouse and 'change' the lines in the taskbar, although I can unlock taskbar...the lines I am talking about are the lines separating quick launch, desktop/search area, and notification area...the lines are there, click on them and try to move, nothing.....What is going on? Thanks for answer to a minor problem, but the screen looks wierd!

No, the tool did not work. Also, there are other things that I did not mention. For instance, in msconfig, start-up, everything is double-spaced! Also, programs in the 'All Programs' are double spaced.
I may have posted this wrong....anyway, no, this tool did not help. Also, I also see that things in msconfig, start menu, are now double spaced...as are the programs in the 'all programs' listing. What is going on?
If this is a fresh install of Windows (as opposed to repairing an old install), if I start having problems, I will re-run the installation again. Maybe something went wrong.
Getting updated drivers is a good idea. If you run a repair reinstall, Windows will look for appropriate drivers that were previously installed. If you installed Windows "fresh" (formatted), and you need to upgrade through service packs, get updated drivers first.
I don't like problems on a new install, I would rather start again.
First I really appreciate responses...yes, this is a new install. I had to have Geek Squad install since I could not do this. Nothing to do with computer problems (I have a fairly amount of experience on computers), I have recently been released from hospital and now recooperating...am not able to do things I used to do. No, computer worked fine when picked it up, but two things are going on...(1) the task bar gets ******* up...and (2), I noticed that things in the configuration utility, start up, etc., items are all double spaced, which takes a lot of room. Yes, resolution does correct this...but I have to go to the highest for it to work. Then sometimes the notification area has 2 lines (which is fine if it held), then they appear just great, then they get *******. Noticed one more thing, if I unlock taskbar, I can move it now, but not 1 line at a time, it moves 2 lines at a time. Anyway, this is not a terrible thing...just screwes up my task bar with clutter....thanks, and hopefully someone can help....
right click on desktop - properties - Display Settings - and in theme /resolution window you have DPI ... set it to something smaller
For Vista right click on desktop - Personalize - In the right panel called "tasks" you have "Adjust font size DPI" press it - accept the warning from UAC - select 96 DPI ...

*** if you have Windows 7 and you have the taskbar big is because of the new "superbar" .... I`ve tried it also, and as i used the 1st line as "tasks" and 2nd like only for Quick Launch ... the problem arrived in the tray icon where icons were placed on only 2 lines ...which was bad sized ( main programs bar in w7 is slight bigger )
Yes, I did reset the dpi, (sic) and everything else I can think of. I can get it right, but it does not stay that way on reboot! Just thought maybe a setting was wrong. Anyway, thanks to all for reading this and giving me your input...as I said, I just do not want to reinstall Windows over this one thing...just not up to it...for some reason, task bar will not hold settings and, as I said, if this applies, things show up in some of the programs double spaced, i.e., msconfig start-up items.
It is not a setting / tool with extra spacing and extra large icons for people with deteriorated eyesight? I accidently launched such a tool on a mac because I pressed the wrong shortcut to make a screendump, and I didn't know what was happening. All icons where spaced and when selecting anything, it made these items blink and started reading out loud.
After writing the previous paragraph, I looked around in my XP control panel, and couldn't find such a tool, so it's probably nothing like this happening to your system...
Thanks guys...something happened, that is reason I have not posted recently. Got the taskbar the way I wanted it and applied a theme, and then uninstalled the theme...taskbar stayed correct. Has not changed back since. So for now, crossed fingers, hope it holds! All of you know how screwey things get at times...but for now, thanks and hopefully, all is well...
After writing the previous paragraph, I looked around in my XP control panel, and couldn't find such a tool, so it's probably nothing like this happening to your system...
In XP's Control Panel, there should be an icon for "Accessability Options" with the handicapped icon (figure in wheelchair).
There you can alter contrast, cursor blink rate, sticky keys options, etc., and you can also configure it for other vision impairment needs, like making icons large or having text spoken back to you.
It was my initial thought, though, that he had set these somehow. Applying a new theme (that isn't configured for handicap accessiblity) might have disabled the handicap accessiblity options. Just my first guess, and I'm no expert...
