I have a Compaq Presario 5000 with a 18 GB disk, running XP Home SP2.

When I initially set the machine up, I created Drive D for recovery purposes. The instructions convinced me that this was a good idea.

Now I have an external Maxtor 4 Mini disk for backups, and I have media for XP Home, which together are adequate insurance against catastrophe.

Given that drive C is filling up, I'd like to delete drive D and apply its former disk space to drive C. That would increase disk C's capacity by 50%.

How would I go about this? Is it possible to do it without reinstalling XP?

    Backup, backup and then backup.

Ok, done that? Now do a backup ;)

Once your happy go to disk manager and delete the D partition, after this data recovery is unlikely to be financially viable... You did backup didn't you?

Now download a partition manager such as this others are available. It's your decision what you chose but please backup first.
