    I like to keep my PCs lean and mean, and one way to do that is to disable unnecessary programs from launching at boot.

    I've already whittled down my list of startup programs to the following:

    * WkUFind -- located in the Microsoft Works Shared folder

    * Updreg -- I don't know what this does

    * AHQInit -- something to do with my SB Live sound card

    * Bldbubg -- something to do with Dell (I've got a Dell PC)

    Does anyone know if any of the above programs are unnecessary to load at startup?

    Thanks.

    dkline--Here are a couple of lists of sites that list what you may/may not want at start up
    http://www.3feetunder.com/krick/startlist.htm
    http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Uncheck.htm
    http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_full.htm

    My two cents--I would have ScanRegistry, your antivirus and, if you are on cable/DSL, a firewall running at Startup. And probably also SysTray and LoadPowerProfile (though I think that runs whether or not you check it).
    Doubt you need the four you mention, but I have not checked them out. Do searches on www.google.com
