Add/Remove error...[Java RE]

Today I upgraded my Java jre from 6.7 to 6.10. As I have done in the past, I installed the newer version before I removed the older one. The install went fine. However, when I tried to Remove 6.7 it came up with this error:

"Internal Error 2753. RegUtils"

When I click OK I then get this message:

"Fatal error during installation."

At that point I ran JavaRa and it removed the 6.7 files from my Program Files folder. However, the 6.7 entry is still in my Add/Remove list and I still get the same (above) errors when I click on Remove.

I have done this sequence (install the newer version then remove the older one) before without any problems. I have updated to SP3 since I did this the last time.

I am on an often poor dialup line. Yesterday I tried twice to do a "normal" Java update from the Java panel in the XP Control Panel and the line failed near the end both times. And Sun's procedure does not "resume" where the failure occurred. It starts over. Both times I was well over an hour into the download process.

So today I downloaded the complete file using GetRight (which will "resume" if there is a line failure) as I have done in the past.

Any suggestions on how I can clean up (remove) the 6.7 entry in my Add/Remove list?

Look through the downloads at www.java.com, there is a stand-alone uninstaller for JRE. If there are still problems, you may need to reinstall version 6.7 and then uninstall it before installing 6.10.

[PS Try to make the thread's title meaningful. See the Posting Rules if you need some tips.]

I can see where we have a difference of opinion. And I don't need the attitude! I believe this is an Win XP problem and not a Java problem. So, in my opinion, your added entry to my title does not help define the problem. I believe my original title, "Add/Remove error" was enough to indicate the nature of the issue.

I have done the exact same update process at least four times before without any error messages or problems. I am not a total rookie at doing this. I already know that removing 6.10 then re-installing 6.7 then removing 6.7 then re-installing 6.10 might, I repeat, might solve the issue. So, Mattman, I will seek help elsewhere.

I do not need to be slapped on the wrist for my title! And I will not be a contributing member or any other kind of member anymore. Good bye!

scout321x, no attitude intended. If you have taken offence, I'm sorry. It was meant to add more information to your title. If you have a descriptive title people that know about those subjects will take a look. It might also catch people doing websearches.

In the Java forums:
http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5331236

Again, I apologise, but I would never have (easily) found that information without narrowing my search with the term "Java".

Matt
