Removing [Desktop] Icon word [colour] background

Hi My mate and I have both got Acer Travelmate 6592laptops with XP Pro on them and on his desktop the words under the icons have a blue ( I can change the colour) box around them , mine doesn't, I have checked the display setting on both and they both seem the same, my desktop has the same program etc and no blue box,
I seem to remember my old W98 desktop had the blue box's,
I hope someone can point me in the right direction as you have done many times in the past.
Thanks Cheers Des.

Hello Des,

Is he using a customised Background compared to yours?

The answer is probably in Display Properties -> Desktop tab or under the Appearance tab -> Advanced button where you can adjust the desktop colour.

Also check if Themes have been modified.

I know what you mean, but I have not looked into it very closely.

Matt

Thanks Cheers Des.
Right Click on My Computer
Select Properties
Select Advanced Tab
Click the Settings button in the Performance Section
In Performance Options select Visual Effects
Select Custom Radio Button
And tick "Use drop down shadows for icon labels on the desktop" (second option from the bottom in my list, it should be the same on yours.

When that option is ticked, your Desktop icon labels will have a transparent background, when cleared the icons will have a solid background.

Hi Fella's thanks again for your replies, I have found the culprit, right click the desktop and got to "Arrange Icons " and his " Lock Web Icons on Desktop " was ticked ,Untick and the boxes go , I think I checked every box on the unit against mine , except that one.
I dont really see what that title has to do with the box's on the desktop but it has fixed it,
Thanks again Cheers Des,
