I installed service pack 3 on another computer and once it was finished, I had to reboot my computer. However, once it got to the Windows XP loading screen, it just kept loading forever and ever. I've had it running for hours and nothing has happened. Is there any way I can get this set back to service pack 2 since I can't access my computer at all?

By the way, I can't access anything at all, including the menu that comes up by pressing F2 at startup.

Try a repair install using an XP SP2 CD.

Hi CPUDude521, When you start your computer can you get F8 to get into Safe Mode? You could try starting in > Last Known Good Configuration. If this doesn't help you will have to await some more expert advise.Neil.

You have an AMD processor by chance? On an HP or Compaq PC? That's a known issue. Read You receive a “Stop 0x0000007E” error message after you upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3 on a non-Intel-processor-based computer

First, to break the reboot cycle, press the F8 key when you see the black Windows XP screen and then select Disable automatic restart on system failure.

Once you've done that you should be able to get into Safe Mode. Next follow the steps outlined in the Microsoft Knowledge Base I liked to above.

If you just want to revert back to SP2, once you restart in Safe Mode, go to Add or Remove Programs from Control Panel, check the Show Updates box, then scroll to the bottom of the listing. Select Windows XP Service Pack 3 and click the Remove button.

More information is available on Jesper Johansson's blog

I just tried using system recovery, because that's the only thing I can access. It worked fine, but then it said "To complete, you must restart or shut down your computer" So I pressed restart and now I'm getting this "NTLDR is compressed" error. I have to press ctrl+alt+del to restart. But every time I do this, the same message pops back up. How do I get out of it?

By the way, I do have an AMD processor, but I don't have any kind of Windows XP or Service Pack disc. This is an HP computer, and I don't have an HP disk either.
