    Here it goes...

It started about 2 weeks ago, my computer was running fine up till that point, then all of a sudden it would start to take longer to load files and shutdown startup.... It started to freeze frequently while playing games and even just internet browsing...

a couple days after that my friends heard a pop within the machine and it just froze... they turned it back on to see if everything was ok and it stayed on for about 30 mins then froze again...

I took my computer into Circuit City to get serviced and they said it was the HD, so i went out and bought a 320 WD HD compatible with my comp... Put it in ran the recovery discs and froze and 5%, did this multiple times and when i say that about 30 times all froze at 5%...

So thinking that i solved the HD case maybe i have faulty discs as well, ordered brand new discs put the 1st one in and low and behold same thing froze at 5%...

it loads up the HD disc np and does all of that but when i get to the system recovery it freezes at 5%, i dont know if it is a motherboard issue or what....

If anyone can help me that would be great...

You should take it back to original (factory) specifications, so remove any hardware you may have added. Even disconnect any printers, etc.

Go into the BIOS (Startup Configuration Settings) and look for a reset to default settings. Turn off any Quick Boot/Quick Start settings. The new HDD may need to be identified correctly. It may be easier to look through the system's manual to find the settings.

You bumped your post 1 hour and 23 minutes after you started your thread here. That is totally unacceptable - we are all volunteers here and a reply within a 24 hrs is a reasonable expectation. If there is any bumping to be done the Moderators will take care of it.

If you do it again I shall take the appropriate action

Well, that's unfortunate. I guess I'll hold off on offering a procedure to try and isolate the cause of this problem. In closing, I would add that I suspect there is also nothing wrong with the original HDD.

    ;)

I'll put in a comment, I hope it is taken in the correct "spirit ".

This was your first post and I haven't been a moderator very long, I suppose I should have mentioned about the bumping.

After watching Pete and the other moderators for many years something like that needs to be pointed out. "No disrespect ", the quick bump is a little disrespectful. As Pete said, we all come on line at different times, we do not purport ourselves to be a "we'll fix it quick" forum and we might wait to see if somebody comes along with a fairly accurate suggestion rather than trying to offer suggestions that will lead you in all different directions.

Some other forums might not worry about it, we are very much a "community" and respect other people's suggestions rather than "jumping in" to offer a quick fix over others (I see on a lot of other sites).

You don't need to take the comment harshly. If you take it onboard and see how we work here, I think you will find it is a great place. You don't need to leave with a chip on your shoulder, you need to realise that in our community, the quick bump was unacceptable, that's all.
