I was running the Windows XP (pro with service pack 2) defragmenter this evening and I got an error message at 98% analyzing. The error stated "the scan has been canceled because an error occurred in file:
    C:\MSOCache\AllUsers\90000409-6000-11C3-8CFE-0150048383C9\PR103368.CAB.

What is this error and how do I fix it. I did a search online but could not find anything.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am running Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2
    I have Avast Anti-Virus Software
I have ad aware and spybot for my spyware
I have a digital connection to the internet (through my cable company - a package for tv,phone & internet)
My PC is a HP Pavillion 7865 with AMD Athalon Processor 1.2 ghz; 512 RAM

Everything is running fine and the only thing that is new since the last defrag that I ran (which was 3 days ago) is that I installed Drive Image XML and tried running it 2 days ago. I ran system restore before making changes for the drive image xml and went back and returned my pc to before those changes before I ran this defrag so I'm not sure what the problem is. I didd check the MSOCache file for that cab file and it is there.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

If you have errors during defragmentation it can mean there is a problem with the file system or maybe even the disk surface. Run Error Checking (chkdsk) on the drive/s. My Computer -> right-click on the (fixed) drive -> Properties -> Tools tab -> Error Checking, put a check in both boxes. You will need to restart to check the Windows (C:?) drive. It may take several hours to run.

The .cab file is part of MS Office. They talk about where you can obtain it here:

If more files seem to be damaged, you may need to reinstall Office.

    Matt

Thanks for the info. I did do some researching and found the error checking program so I did run that. (I was used to it being at start/run/programs/accessories/system tools along with the defrag and clean disk options like in Windows ME). After running that the defrag worked just fine.

    Thanks for the help!
    :p
