Desktop icons move by "themselves" ?

XP pro SP2

At times , for no apparent reason, the order of ALL

the icon on my desktop change.

I don't see anything that gives me a clue as to the order
but I don't think it is random

Thanks

Don

My System
Often it's due to a resolution change by some gaming software or merely booting to Safe Mode, which invokes the VGA driver.. Sometimes it can be caused by malware.

I use a handy little tool that restores the order when it gets scrambled.

IconSaver There are two versions, one is totally freeware while the other is shareware. I have used the free version for years and wouldn't be without it. In getting the link for you I find that I may want to try the shareware version now.

Here is Lock desktop which is free.
I have used it for years on many computers. Go to:
http://www.nthelp.com/50/save_desktop_layout.htm
Download it from where it says here.
TIP: LOCK DESKTOP ICONS
"In Windows you can lock down the position of the Desktop icons. Place Layout.dll in C:\Windows\System and then click on Layout.reg. From now on, whenever you right-click on the "Recycle Bin" or "My Computer" icons, you can see a new option: "Save [or Restore] Desktop Icon Layout".

My System
The hot tip when using any icon position restorer is to turn off "Snap To Grid" in the Desktop context menu when restoring, otherwise you will have to run the restore function several times to get the icons to move to their home positions.
