Hi All!
To introduce myself, my name is Wayne, but everyone calls me "Budgie" nickname from boarding school, age 8, stemming from my surname Burgess and became Burgie then Budgie...ok!
Alright a colleague of mine bought a second hand laptop at a bargain price, not properly computer lit, he allowed a friend to connect an external hard drive to his laptop to download a movie, having NO protection! One hell of a virus attacked his PC, so much so, the key pad could only be used to log on and also be quick,or it freezes.
To try and help him, I installed AVG anti virus and AVG anti spyware both free editions, but would not allow me to install Spyware Terminater, this did not help at all! It found some horrible Trojans and Worms but to no avail..no help.
So!... Format the hard drive was the next solution, NOW! I am reinstalling Windows, good grief! It has now taken 7 hours and it is STILL installing windows!
Is this normal with a laptop PC?
The Laptop is a:-
Saharah NB 610
INTEL Celeron
40GB hard drive
and I'm under correction, about 196MB RAM.
Colleges of mine tell me it takes up to 48 hours to install windows! Boy! Is this true?
As I am typing this, I glance every now and then at the laptop and the green progress bar remains stuck just over half way.
Thanx Guys for reading!
PS: Very informative website

No - it does not take 48 hours to install Windows - more like 40 minutes.
How did you format the drive?
Are you sure you are not attempting a Repair install?
Are you using a legal copy of XP? You do realise that you can only install and activate that copy on one computer?
If you are using a Recovery CD which came with the computer that should also take only 40 minutes or so - you cannot use a Recovery CD from another computer.
