    Hi,
I've read through some the posting. Not sure if anything can be done for my pc. I'm running hp 1519h desktop with Xp SP2 that was all ready bundle into the pc.
I started having some issue a couple weeks ago. Pc would reboot and go through the normal starte up, but then it would lock up. I couldn't use my mouse to open any folders. I tried to repair pc with its own repair program when it did, it still would lock up on me. Last night I did the the unthinkable I used the recovery disk(s) to restore factory setting. But that did not help at all. Am I doing the some thing wrong or is the pc having a hardware issue, that I need to look for? I had an old desktop that ran windows 98SE, but never seen such a@$$%& issue like this.:mad::mad:. Before I forget
    Thanks for any advise given.

Elias Diaz - Welcome to the Board :)

If I understand correctly the PC was rebooting of it's own accord and then would lock up? The default setting for XP is to restart on System Failure - not very helpful when troubleshooting :)

The present situation is that you can do nothing on the computer as it locks up immediately on boot?

Are you able to start in Safe Mode? ......
If you can get into Safe Mode right click My Computer Icon > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings and uncheck under System Failure 'Automatically restart' and OK out. When a system failure occurs you will see a blue screen (the Blue Screen of Death - BSOD) on which there will most likely be a Stop message and a file may be referenced. We need the information from that screen if it occurs.

Again, if you can get into Safe Mode go to Start > Run and type in cmd > OK

At the flashing cursor in the Command Window which opens type cd\ and hit the Enter key.

You should now be in the root of C drive - C:\> followed by a flashing cursor.

Type chkdsk /r and hit the Enter button.

Most likely a message about being unable to lock the drive , blah, blah .... will appear with the question y/n?

Type y followed by Enter , close the Command Window and reboot. On bootup the drive will be checked.

    Do that and post back.
