Did you by any chance recently "use" the icons that were in the folder?

Did you look in the recycle bin?

I looked in the recycle bin, there is nothing shown as that folder
I do not believe that I recently used those files.

I did a test, running a desktop cleanup wizard, it says it moved a file to that folder but now, I cannot find that folder so the icon for me is gone.

Did you do a search for "unused desktop shortcuts "? I use Agent Ransack (a free program) to search for that and it showed me where it is located.

    Yes

I did a search with Copernic Desktop Search. Nothing came up.
