I am trying to restore my comp to it's prior condition after I was hit with the issue of <Windiws root>\system32\hal.dll

I think that I have that issue resolved, but now when my XP is starting up/installing, I come across the following message in a Window.....

The file 'asms' on Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM is needed.

Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.

    Copy files from:

    GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM\I386

    OR

    D:\

If I choose either of these, nothing happens....I don't know what to do next.

I have all the discs that came with my comp for XP, but am not bale to get anything to work...

Please I would appreciate any form of direction. I would prefer to restore everything, but have no clue if it is too late for that or not.

Basically I just want to get my PC back to being a useful peice of machinery as opposed to an expensive paperweight....

    Thanks,
