    Hi All

I have a problem with my scanner. I don’t know if it is a hardware or software problem.

A little while ago I replaced my MB with a Soyo SY-K7VM333 and all went well, or so I thought.

I use my scanner, among other things, to make copies of documents.
I have a program called photocopier and it worked well in the past.
    Now I get an error:
    No TWAIN supported scanner found.

So I uninstalled the scanner and rebooted ( Twice ) and it still gives me the same error.

So I tried to use CompUPic, but get the error:

Unable to open default Data source
    Source Manager Operation failed
    RC: TWRC_ENDOFLIST
    CC: TWCC_SUCCESS

On the scanner is a scan button and when I press it, it opens MS Office Document Imaging and I can scan,
but it informs me that it can only scan it in Black & White, no color and it will only scan it as a .TIF file.

My Computer is an Emachines with 1 gig ram and an AMD 2000+. The scanner is a HP scan jet 5p. Running XP Home

    My PCI-SCSI adaptor is a Adaptec AHA-2940/2940W

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Sven

    Edit:
I downloaded a driver for my scanner from HP and installed it.
It also comes with a test program and the test failed. It tells me
The communication with the scanner failed.
Could it be the PCI-SCSI card is bad?

I will try to re seat it later. Hopefully that will help.

Look in Device Manager for that card. Uninstall the device and reboot. Windows should detect the 'new hardware" and install the necessary drivers for it IF it has them. Else you'll need to use a cd or download drivers for the card. Next, use the scanner software will provide the necessary twain driver for the scanner, and use the HP scanning software instead of MS Imaging.

    Hi TonyT,

Found it and uninstalled it and also my scanner.
Rebooted and my computer found both again.
Then, for no apparent reason I got a blue screen.
Could not read what was on it because it rebooted to fast.
    Now it is running fine.

I tested the scanner, but I still get the communication error.

I will reseat it later and see if that helps

    Update:

I moved the PCI-SCSI card to a differed slot and I still get the same error.

I also checked the SCSI termination, and it only works on 1 setting.
Works means it is trying to work and trying to communicate with the computer, but can’t make a proper connection.

    What to try next?

    Hi All

I just turned on my computer and then I walked away for a while. When I came back there was an error message telling me that windows has recovered from a serious error and to send the error report to MS. After doing so it takes me to a webpage of MS telling me that the error was caused by a file named: ASPI32.SYS and to go to Adaptec’s web and download the new file.

I hoped that this is the problem with my scanner. So I download the file, unzip it and install the new files.
Well, now my scanner will not do anything anymore. Not even the test center in HP deskscan will find it.

Did I now fry the aha-2940 completely?

    Any help, anyone?

    Sven

    PS
I was able to rename the new files placed in Sysrem32 folder and did the install again.

After that I am back at the same problem that was before I replaced the aspi32.sys file.

I opened the case and looked at the card, and there is a red light that is blinking. I could be mistaken, but I think the light was on solid as soon as I powered up. Any one know about this?

    Thanks

Do you have a driver cd for the card?
If XP has drivers for it then the default XP drivers will get installed. Try updating the card's drivers using the accompanying cd if have one.

    Update

I don’t know what went wrong the first time, but I just did a new install over the old windows and now my scanner is working the way it was.

    Thanks for your help
