Question

OK, here is the latest. I used ShellExView v1.16 - Shell Extensions Manager and disabled video thumbnail extractor, which is a microsoft extension.

that has solved the problem of windows explorer crapping out when I highlight (single click) or double click and avi file. If I double click an avi file now windows media player opens BUT gives me a similar error. "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." With the choices to click Debug, Send Error Report or Don't Send.

I also have a screen capture of that error if anyone wants to see it.

Talking

OK, it seems that I have fixed it.
Like I said above I used ShellExView v1.16 - Shell Extensions Manager and disabled video thumbnail extractor, which is a microsoft extension to get the windows explorer error to go away.

Then I removed the K-Lite Codec Pack from the system using add remove programs and everything works. Until the next windows ***** up ...

Thanks to all that have helped!!!
