XP Crash, need help with Debug Log

I came home from work. Reading email. Sygate told me AVG was trying to contact update service. I said remember and ok, system crashed. When system restarted it asked to send error report. Then I got a web site which said there may be a problem with BIOS or RAM. Installed new RAM more than a week ago and all has been fine. AMI BIOS is dated 1999. Never have flashed a bios. Don't want to *****(sorry) mess this up. Debug log as follows:

An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is
caused by drivers that have corrupted the system pool. Run the driver
verifier against any new (or suspect) drivers, and if that doesn't turn up
the culprit, then use gflags to enable special pool. You can also set
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\ProtectNonPagedPool
to a DWORD 1 value and reboot. Then the system will unmap freed nonpaged pool,
preventing drivers (although not DMA-hardware) from corrupting the pool.

Sorry for my impatience. This is an old computer and would hate to think I would have to spend money I don't have to get a new one or fix this one.

Now to my problem: This is a one time occurance. Hasn't happened before or since.

Will check my memory to be on the safe side. Motherboard (amptron 3726(m)t) calls for pc100 but installed three sticks of PC133 ram a few weeks ago.

It is somewhat dangerous to read too much into one dump log. It may have occurred by some reason that will only occur once. We might all spend a lot of time chasing phantoms.

Only worry if it starts to become an ongoing occurrence.

Is this install of Windows starting to get old? If you install Windows and never install any programs or go on the internet it should still work a hundred years from now. If you add and remove programs, pick up internet junk (mostly unknowingly), Windows starts to get "tired" and eventually will need to be freshly installed. I say this because, looking at the dump, there are quite a few modules loaded. Check what is loading at startup (the programs running in the Notification Tray near the clock, and maybe some running invisibly in the background), these fill your memory/RAM, they can try to connect to internet when you are not expecting it.
You might want an antivirus updater running in the background, but not a printer software updater program I disable updaters and run them myself manually.
You can see the basic startup programs by going to Start -> Run and entering msconfig -> Startup tab (if they are not running, say, as services). You can usually disable startup programs you see in the Notification Tray by going to their menu Tools -> Options.

It sounds like you are interested in keeping Windows going well (some people format and reinstall regularly...me, I try to see how long an install will last). It may be a matter of keeping an eye on what is happening in the background.

If the old (PC100) module is still installed try removing it and just running the PC133. It would help if the PC133 modules were "matching ".

Don't throw a lot of money at trying to fix a hardware problem when it turns out to be a software problem (maybe my point in this post).

Thanks Pete, keep that one up your sleeve. My new ISP has bamboozled me and I have lost all my regular download usage for the coming month

Thinking about it, I have Startup Control Panel in my utilities, but have never actually used it. I use Hijack This to see what is loading, but I investigate those that I am not familiar with and then disable them within their main program or find a way to uninstall them...for minor pests I use msconfig.
