There is an easy way to determine what security updates you are missing
and whether or not they are critical and a description of what they are.

    Go to http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html download and
install Belarc, then run it for a profile of your computer.

If your are missing any security updates they will be listed and and classified
critical or not, clicking on "details" will define what they are for.

This information appears on the right side and near the top.

It is my understanding, even though you may be using Firefox or Opera you should keep them up to date

    Hi, hawkeye. :)

I agree. Belarc Advisor is easy to use, handy, and provides many other details about one's computer as well.

Each month, within a few days of Microsoft's "Patch Tuesday" (2nd Tuesday of the month), one can download Belarc Advisor's updated security definitions available at http://www.belarc.com/advisor_update.html. Then double-click the downloaded advisor_update.exe file to install and automatically generate an updated report.

I use Belarc Advisor to help keep tabs on a particular security update (KB902400) that appears to keep getting corrupted in my computer. Belarc Advisor conveniently displays in bold, "Reinstall! ", for that particular patch.

    Belarc

I heartily agree with your comments

I also had to reinstall KB902400 which was successful.

    Microsoft Secutity Updates - KB902400

    I agree with your findings

    Yesterday I reinstalled KB902400 successsfully

Today per your request I ran sfc /scannow and then Belarc
which reports KB902400 as requiring reinstall

sfc /scannow is definitely causing the problem
