Hello Everbody,
I have been copying songs from various CDs to a CD-R to play in my truck, and in my wife's car. I have been making these CDs for a couple of years. Today, I tried to make a new CD. It shows the songs as being on the CD-R, but they won't play on my computer, or the truck. Windows Media Player says, "The selected file has a scheme that is not recognized by Windows Media Player. Because the extension is unknown by the Player, you should be sure the file comes from a trustworthy source." Can anyone help me with this one?
Thank You,
Coyote

With the CD in the optical drive, right click on the drive then select Open. Right click on one of the music files to see its extension. See if its a .wav, .mp3 or etc. WMP and your vehicle's CD player will only play supported file types.
It show's the music file as, Type of File: CD Audio Track
Opens with: Windows Media Player
The computer will play the music files from the original CD. It will no longer copy the music files from the original CD to another CD. Like it has been doing??
I don't think the CD is copy protected. I have copied songs from them before. I have tried making a copy, and burning a music CD both. It shows the music file is on the CD-R, but they won't play on my computer, or the truck. Windows Media Player says, "The selected file has a scheme that is not recognized by Windows Media Player??
I think your problem might be File Association, try reverting to Windows Media Player File and check your settings in the Burning Software are you using Nero or any other big brand, try with a different software there are many free ones around just to test.
