Hi Folks,

I reformatted my PC, but this time everything that can go wrong did happen. I lost the Outlook backup data completely comprising of roughly 15000 emails 1000 Contacts and an almost finished Website done with Dreamveaver/Fireworks. I have reformatted before and have never had a hitch, but this time I just bunged it up, hook line and sinker!

On my D drive (generally used as backup) is empty at the moment, but there is some data on it which is hidden. The drive is actually a partition volume with a capacity of 85.7 GB (81.5 GB available and 4.21 GB occupied). The mystery is that the 4.21 GB is invisible!

So, how do I make this data visible?

    Regards to all - Rista

Reformatting removes EVERYTHING from the drive...

Anyway, on your D drive...XP sets a side 10% for the recycle bin and 12% for system restore....Odds are the hidden files are one or both of these.

    Thanks Steve,

I just checked and confirm your findings!

I have 3.99 GB reserved for the waste paper basket! I remember reducing it to 10% a few months ago..(I wasn't hoping to find any lost data there, not even faintly. When I goof it, then thoroughly)

    Regards - Rista

It may be worth your time to run Restoration from a floppy to try recovering some of your lost data. I've recovered quite a lot from formatted drives on several occasions.
