I saw an earlier posting that reported this problem, which I have as well.

The solution was to locate sr.inf, right click on it and follow the instructions.

When I searched, sr.inf was not found. I'm stuck.

I have tried changing the DWORD value from 0 to to 1 in the "DisableSR" entry in the Registry item
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\NT\Current Version\System Restore" but that didn't work.

Of note, when that value was 0, and SR was flagged as Turned Off, I blanked out the checkmark and tried again. SR wouldn't execute and reported that my C drive was not enabled.

    Any help would be appreciated.

deerfoot - Welcome to the Board :)
Did you search Hidden Files and Folders?

sr.inf is located at C:\WINDOWS\inf\sr.inf - inf is a hidden folder.

To navigate to it manually first go Tools > Folder Options > View and check 'Show hidden files and folders'.

  3. to hide this advert.

    Hello PeteC!

Well, Bada Boom and Ramalamadingdong! It worked!
    Thank you so much.

Just in case someone else has this problem, here's the summary:

    1. sr.inf is located at C:\WINDOWS\inf\sr.inf - inf is a hidden folder.
    2. right-click on sr.inf
    3. click on INSTALL
    4. you get asked to mount your Windows XP Install CD and point to sr.sys. What you will find in the I386 subdirectory is sr.sy_ Select that and things will get installed.

My first crack at this Forum has been a fruitfull experience. Will pop by again often and, perhaps, I'll be able to help someone else.

My eyes ( or memory ) may be deceiving me but I believe that I see a bit of controversey in the above in quote.
I was not aware the System Restore had anything to do with protection of a PC.
Also from some not-so-nice experiences of my own. If SR is NOT KEPT UP TO Date ( Almost daily ) and especiallly after changes, it may well be more problems than help.

WOW !!!! I guess that I had better take my own advice. I just looked at my SR files and see that they are 3 days old. I have MOVED one and DELETED two programs since. So that tells me that if I used one of the old SRs. I could be in TROUBLE.
