Pay a visit to windows update site. This will be checked for and installed, if found missing, on each trip to "ms update ".

    Are you having update problems?

It should still be in *:\windows\downloaded programs files folder, at least mine is. Have you disabled the use Ie plugins? You could look at the activex plugins list via IE's tools>internet options>history settings> "view object" button. This will show the list of plugins you have and if "muwebcontrol class" is present it will be in the list.

You may need to be looking for wuwebcontrol class not mu. (w not m).

I'm not sure what [moo] muwebcontrol class is. While I could look it up, that will have to wait. It's dinner time and I'm hungry....I'm off to the dinner table now.......

    Ah ha....
muwebcontrol class is the windows updates plus other products such as Office updates combined. Therefore, it is "Microsoft Update" versus "Windows Update" ala Wuweb* versus Muweb*.

It's been so long since I patched MSOffice that I forgot about this alternate or second update option. Same theory applies though, except you'll be going

    >To here

    >Click the Start Now button.

    >Click Continue after reading the licensing agreement.

    >If necessary, follow the on-screen instructions to install the ActiveX control.

    >Click the Install button when the Security Warning dialog box.

Once the installation is complete, a Microsoft Update option will be added to the Start Menu. The new service also works with the Automatic Updates settings configured through the System Properties dialog box.

well bless your heart. it worked. :) i now have microsoft update listed in my start menu and i also have windows update which i wasnt missing. no, i didnt have problems getting updates its just that on my other computer i have microsoft update and in my downloaded program files it says mu webcontrol class. i still dont have on this computer anything in the downloaded program files. its still empty. no mu webcontrol class listed. checked the history settings in ie7 no ie plugins listed either. i do have active x i guess or i wouldnt have been able to get microsoft update. anymore suggestions on how to get the webcontrol class where it belongs will be appreciated. thanks much on at least solving one problem. i tried looking for microsoft update and couldnt find it. your links were a godsend. like my dad used to say if it was a snake it would of bitten you! lol! it was his way of saying it was so simple to find and i couldnt.

    Well shoot pishbloom2,

I meant to get back to this post but since the immediate root problem was solved I kept putting it off. I found myself involved with other posts which took a big chunk of my time and attention. I guess I put this off a little to long. Looks like we'll never know which folder the misplaced muwebcontrol class was hiding out in. Oh well...I'm glad to see that that mystery is behind you even though the method may not have been preferred. Thanks for updating your post with the final outcome. :)
