I searched this forum and found "Taskbar Repair" so I downloaded it and ran it, no success. Basically a day ago I lost my bottom bar. I've reset settings, and set it to "auto-hide" and "show always" but to no avail. I have no task bar. Annoying, no clock, quick start, or other useful things....What can I do, when I open the windows menu using the keyboard, it floats the right amount above the task bak, but doesn't show the bar below it!

    Please help!

What happens if you try running explorer using Task Manager. In Task Manger, click file>new task(run). Type explorer in the run box.

    ryanopaz: Welcome to the BBS!

I had my Taskbar vanish on me recently. What wound up getting it back was to move my mouse cursor down to the very bottom of the monitor screen and drag that bottom edge up. Voila! Taskbar reappeared. Maybe your situation is more complicated, but it's worth a try. Let us know how the different suggestions you get work out.

If that doesn't work, try the settings on the Monitor.

Nothing a new window opens! No bar though. Also tried the other ideas and all to no avail. No bar. The Taskbar repair program worked today for 30seconds! I ran it and the bar showed up all normal and then disappeared again.

This is starting to get annoying. The worse part is not even knowing where to look or what to do....thanks for the help so far, any new ideas?

What type of monitor do you have?
Have you adjusted the setting on it to raise the bottom part of the screen up?

Since it's only been a day, have you tried system restore? This seems to me to be one of those things that you'd stand a good chance of fixing with it.

Also, have you checked for viruses or malware of some sort? Seems odd that the taskbar would appear when you first ran the repair tool and then disappear again seconds later.

Didn't want to do it but system restore worked perfectly. Now to see if there is a malware piece that I can't find. I use spybot, avg, and I'm running a trendmicro scan...any others I should run?

    thanks for the help

Good, glad to hear that worked. As for checking for viruses and the like, go through the things mentioned in this thread and when you're finished, start a new thread in the Removing Spyware & Viruses forum and post your Hijack This log there. Somebody who's knowledgeable in this area is more likely to see it there and help you out with it.

I would like to throw out there, for food for thought, that there was a past post that suggested that this "stuck hidden taskbar" also had two lesser know causes as stated in this past post:

    http://windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=23889

Perhaps some plugged in device [googled many a post referring to ipod as a cause of this], "something in the startup" or "window that pops open on startup, maximized and set to stay on top ", caused the hidden taskbar to stick once forced to hide....a toolbar with corrupt icon. While malware/virus or a registry glitch, or a combination of both, is more likely this is just something to stick in the back of your should this happen again.
