A friend wants to get a laptop computer and wants to be able to watch some TV. Specifically, when the network broadcast of golf ends, they often switch to the Golf Channel for interviews, awards and so forth. The Golf Channel is not available through our cable provider - also our HSI provider.

Question #1 - Is it possible to watch live cable TV such as this on the HSI if our cable provider doesn't feed the Golf Channel.

Question #2 - If it is possible, what sort of horsepower would she need for the laptop to accomplish this - video cards, processor, etc.? And would it be better to wait for Vista?

I may be in the wrong forum here so I trust someone will relocate me. Thanks.

    Watching Golf Sport Streaming TV

It is amazing how many services there are so quickly.
If you are receiving over the internet ( streaming) any working reasonable computer with adequete ram , a video card ( even integrated) is fine.
You obviously have to have adequete bandwidth - you are not going to able to get picture and non jerking quality on dialup or even lite broadband.

    There are lots of services.
Some you pay for some you do not.
With the free ones it can be like p2p sharing programs- it depends on the goodness of the other person to set it up and share it with you. If they turn off their computer you are out of luck.
