Stop XP from asking for a system login admin password

See that there is sort of a reverse version of this question posted.
Windows XP Professional. SP2 installed.
All of the sudden the log on asks for an admin name and password.
I have done all of the standard setups - in ensuring that the password length is set to 0.
In the users panel there is an admin and guest turned off.
The option for the admin to turn off password at startup does not seem to be there.
This is for friend's computer who is a former policeman is rather anal retentive and is shocked that the setting " is different" and is not the way it was before .
Any ideas ?

In control panel>user accounts click the link that says change the way users log on or off. Make sure the line that says use the welcome screen is checked.

If I'm understanding the question correctly, you want the computer to boot on into the user account without asking for a password.

If that's the case, go to Start>Run, type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes), click OK.

In the window that opens, uncheck "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer," click OK.

In the window that opens, enter the name of the account you want it to logon automatically. If there is no password, leave the password field blank. Click OK.

Thanks

Thanks - you are right.
It is was there all along under a control setting " change the way users log on".
I was looking for the Windows 2000 style setting.
I am very conservative with changes.
I once made a simple change that should of made little diffirence ( or so I thought) and was locked out.

thanks again
