My hdd was partitioned 2 ways which I didn't like, but didn't have much choice as I never took the time to look for a program to combine/merge them. I recently found one and added 2gb of unallocated space to my main C drive which was 220GB, next thing I did was to delete the D drive partition and add it to C drive aswell, it seemed to work but I got a "The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur." error.

When it booted back up I went to go do something, and when I came back later I noticed I only had 3gb free, and a minute later it was a little more than 1gb free. I checked around a bit and noticed .tmp files being created constantly. " They are named PR1.tmp, PR2.tmp, PR1A.tmp, PR1B.tmp, etc ".

Each .tmp file takes from 100mb to 2gb each. And the majority of them I cannot delete. The ones I do delete end up being filled right back up by more .tmp files. I can currently barely use that computer as it has next to no harddrive space left! I had 70gb free before this started, now I have 70gb of .tmp files.

What's making these .tmp files? How can I stop it? Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

I am currently running chkdsk /f /x to see if that will help, previous chkdsk /f's haven't.

I have Windows XP Pro SP 2. C drive is NTFS.

They look like eMule/eDonkey part files.

I don't use eMule or eDonkey, I use bittorrent. BitTorrent clients usually have a specific extention to their uncompleted files. And even if Bittorrent were the case, it wouldn't take free space while I wasn't connected or adding new torrents.

Here's an update. The chkdsk finally finished but it didn't seem to fix much, if anything. I was able to delete a few .tmp files before I began to get errors saying I couldn't delete them. So I checked my Task Manager and noticed my Kaspersky Anti-Virus was using half my CPU! This has never happened before.

It wouldn't close after I hit end task so I had to close it manually. After that, my system stopped hanging up, my harddrive space stopped filling up, and I'm now able to delete the .tmp files with no problems (so far).

I'll reinstall my anti-virus software in a bit, but why would it create temporary files constantly? Why would it mess up after I change/toggle with my partitions? I didn't have anything installed on my D: drive so why would it affect it? I have never encountered a problem like this before. :\

I'll keep you updated incase it wasn't the anti-virus software or if something else goes wrong as a result of this.

Any further suggestions and explainations are welcome.
