    Hello all,
Recently my computer has been acting a bit strangely. My computer for the most part is quite normal but if I go into the start menu and click on Windows Update I get directed to the website like normal, and it looks like its going to load but it doesn't and I get an error message.

The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. Take the following steps to try solving the problem:
    Refresh the page.
In Internet Explorer, delete your Temporary Internet Files by going to the Tools menu and clicking Internet Options.
Close and then re-open Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer (Add-ons Disabled) mode only prevents the use of ActiveX controls, including those used by the Microsoft Update website. To get updates using this browser mode, you need to turn on Automatic Updates on your computer or visit the Windows Update website.

The error code that I get is 0x80248011. The weird thing about this error is I also have Windows Defender and if I click on check for the latest definitions I also get the same eror code.

Hi, Evan. I thought I found a Microsoft Knowledge Base article that would help but I think it was the wrong advice, I expect. Therefore, I deleted it from this message.

You do not have any Antivirus software. This is a very dangerous state to be in.

You have to be using Internet Explorer for the Windows Update site. You cannot use Firefox or other browsers.

    Start Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    Click the General tab.
In the Temporary Internet files section, click Delete Cookies.
In the Delete Cookies box, click OK.
    Click Delete Files.
Click to select the Delete all offline content check box in the Delete Files dialog box, and then click OK.
In the History section, click Clear History.
Click Yes, and then click OK.
    Exit Internet Explorer.

    Click Start
    Choose Run
In the Run box, type services.msc
    Click OK
    Right-click the Automatic Updates Service
    Click Stop

After Stopping the Service please use Windows Explorer to rename the folder c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

    Open Windows Explorer
    Navigate to the Windows folder
Click on the + next to the Windows folder
    Navigate to SoftwareDistribution folder
Right Click on the SoftwareDistribution folder
    Select rename from the Menu
Rename the folder to SoftwareDistribution.old and click Enter
    Exit Windows Explorer.

    Finally:

    Click Start
    Choose Run
In the Run box, type CMD
    Type: cd /d C:\windows\SoftwareDistribution
    Type: rd /s DataStore
    Type: Exit

Now restart the Automatic Update Service

    Click Start
    Choose Run
In the Run box, type services.msc
    Click OK
    Right-click the Automatic Updates Service
    Click Start

Starting the service will take a moment.

Reboot and try Windows Update again, using Microsoft Internet Explorer.

    Hey Bill,
I actually do have antivirus software installed. I have Adware SE Personal, Spybot Search and Destroy Version 1.4, and I have the final version of Windows Defender. I also installed Internet Explorer 7. I will defenitly try the steps you gave me Bill and see if that solves the problem. I will post back in a few days. BTW thanks for your quick response. :)

    My Mistake Arie,
Let me rephrase that. I don't have any antivirus software but I do have antispyware software. Tonight I will follow the advice Bill said and hopefully my problem will be fixed. BTW I googled the message and the error doesn't seem to be very hard to fix. :)
