I have gotten this problem before but then figured out that F6 fixed the problem... this was over a year ago. Just recently I got the endless reboot cycle AGAIN and tried to fix it the same way I did last time - fresh reinstall on OS HDD, F6, YAY for boot - well this didn't work. Being that it has happened many times before and the 36GB raptor was over 3 years old I assumed the HDD was dead and bought a new one, which I was going to do anyway. I install my new 74GB raptor and do the windows install blah blah blah blah, and the same **** happens. I use Fasttrak 376/378 Promise controller which is supposed to work with my SK8N mobo. When this problem happened last time I sent in the old mobo and recieved a new one for free, yay for warranty, this was less than 6 months ago. The computer has been through a lot but yet I would still like my desktop to work before I order my new one in 3 months time...plz help this problem has haunted me for 2 years.

    Hi Mouzz,

See if anything is reported in the event viewer.
    Start>run>eventvwr.msc

I don't want to be pessimistic but when this happened to me it was a mobo failure.

Recurring problem? Check for a common factor, I would think of the power supply first
    http://www.journeysystems.com/power_supply_calculator.php
and look at the voltage readouts in the BIOS (there will be a slight variation, this is normal, look for large variations).

If you are using the same cable for the drive, try another.

You can do a repair install. Might take all of a half hour.

And who said one can't find 940 boards anymore - just takes a little looking but there are plenty of options available.

    ;)

going to that power supply note, i just upgraded to a 650W BFG PSU and that shouldn't be a problem.

on the repair install - doesnt work either...

probably will buy a PCI SATA controller

You can follow this link to drivers and utilities for your board and then download the floppy disk setup program to make the correct driver disk for the 278 Controller. Note: you can't used drivers for a promise card and expect them to work on an on-board promise controller.

    ;)

    OK, whatever .............
For what its worth, the most recent ones listed at the ASUS site for your motherboard are 3 years old and are not labeled 376/378. I'll bid you farewell and good luck.
