Have failed motherboard and using xp pro. Will be swapping with the exact same make and model, MSI K8n Neo4 Platinum.

What is the process in setting this up correctly?

So I simply install, connect all drives & cards exactly as before, set up bios (what do I need to do exactly), and away we go? Or am I dreaming:rolleyes: ??

    Thanks

    You likely are dreaming.
Please read all of the following.
A request for re-activation of XP is to be expected.

    ; A very good guide:
    http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/ubb.x/a/tpc/f/77909774/m/1400925745

; This KB is no longer on US sites, but provides valuable information
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;nl;314070

; Copy and paste the listing at article end into Notepad. File, Save as, controllers.reg
; This has to be a record for the length of a .REG file in a MS KB article
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314082/

Then double click controllers.reg and merge with your registry.

; All the possible options for accomplishing your move:
    http://www.windowsreinstall.com/install/other/motherboard/win2k.htm

; You can always "fix" any problems after the move by a repair reinstall of XP
; I like how Fred Langa explains the process:

    No Change Whatsoever in Hardware

    Bill,

Thanks for the reply. I have seen these articles but how do they apply to me? I will be using the exact same hardware and configuration as in the original setup. I will be just swapping out the failed MSI K8n Neo4 Platinum board for a new MSI K8n Neo4 Platinum board with the exact same chipset...the exact same board. All these articles speak of swapping out for different boards or using existing dirve with new devices. I will be using the exact same setup.

Just wanted to make sure you understand the configuration.:)

    Look forward to your reply.

    I understood you perfectly.

I wanted you armed if you do the swap and find you cannot access XP.

I hope you do not need the information.

    Hi Chazar,
I have just had a motherboard failure (Asus A7N8X-E), changed to an Asus A8V-X to go 64 bit, and had no problems except for the demanded, and expected, re-activation.
Don't think you'll have any real problem, but good luck anyway.
    Roger;)
