I've just moved to a new laptop and XP... in trying to load the HP scanjet software from the CD provided with the HP 3500c scanner, I get the message: Java Virtual Machine cannot be loaded - class not registered

This same CD loaded fine on my old W98 platform... do I have a security setting on my XP platform set too high or something??

    Thanks...

God - don't you love this BBS! Thanks Peter for the swift, concise reply.. about to download the VM now - I think from Sun,... sounds like they deserve it! Anyway, thanks - from a '39 born Kent Brit.....

Peter - I found out that I did actually have the Sun VM already pre-loaded on my new laptop (a Compaq Presario) and when I reloaded the scanner software I received the same message - i.e. ERROR - Unable to start the application--the Java Virtual Machine cannot be loaded. Class not registered. Knowing this time that the VM code was in place, I continued on with the installation... I then ran the Microsoft Camera and Scanner Wizard to invoke the app instead of the HP Director icon which the installation left on my Desktop... and it worked... magic.

    Thanks again Peter. Colin
