    Hi.

After windows loads my computer freezes totally. In 5 minutes I have a black screen, after that the screen switches to a blue and black screen with strips in 3 minutes or so, and ends with the famous blue screen in like 0.5 secs and then the system restarts automatically.
I can access safe mode without any problems.
I’ve done numerous things to try to boot into normal mode, but without any luck. I’ve turned off all unnecessary programs in msconfig. Done a virus scan in safe mode (detected some low risk viruses, but they got successfully deleted) and done a register scan and repaired all problems. I’ve done the whole recovery consol thing (or at least I think I’ve done everything there, fixboot and copy ntldr etc). I’ve tried to boot with an emergency boot disk, didn’t work either. I’ve tired to restore my system to a previous state, but I don’t have any restore points "¦ I’ve also done a disk check, didn’t of course that didn’t work either.

I pretty much know what caused the problem, and it was when I did a disk cleanup. When the cleanup was done I returned to my computer, and saw a massages saying that some files in windows dir was replaced and that windows may now be unstable. The massage told me to get my windows cd so it could replaced those faulty files I guess, so I did, but after numerous tries the replacement process wouldn’t start, so I got fed up and thought nothing would happen (my computer at that time was pretty messed up, so I thought how more messed up could it become… Hey! It did get more messed up, totally ******* up actually… ;P ).

So, is there anything more I can do? I can get into safe mode so I guess I can backup all of my necessary files and format c: and reinstall windows, but if there is another way to fix this without losing data which I can’t lose, please tell me.

Ps. I didn’t know that windows cleanup could clean up necessary windows files, well we learn something everyday.

Try a Windows Repair install. Boot from the WinXP CD, and proceed with installing WinXP.

Do not choose the option to repair an XP installation using Recovery Console when prompted, choose the option to To set up Windows XP now press ENTER

After more files have been copied, you'll get another selection screen where you should select the current XP installation, & the option To Repair the selected Windows XP installation, press R.

    Window freezes after loading.

This happened to me while FAXing with the console. One of the FAXs did not go through and sat in the outbox. When I powered-on, Windows loaded and sat there. I had to disconnect everything, reconnect, and the instant I saw icons, I grabbed the FAX console to clear the unsent FAX. From that point on I decided to keep the FAX disabled, and enable it only when needed. I also must be careful to remove any unsent FAXs before power-off. Just my example. Maybe it will "ring a bell" for you.

I tried this after a "chat" with a help rep who told me I would have to uninstall and reinstall the printer.
