Slow Running XP System

Trying to help a friend with pc that runs v e r y s l o w for some unknown reason. Antivirus McAfee is up to date and runs scans. Have tried to run
ewido, but ran so slow I ran out of time and had to give up. Also very slow to open and surf the net and access email via Outlook Express and Yahoo.

Is there anything in this log that might explain this problem?

Nothing in the log to indicate malware nor anything standing out which looks like it's not needed.

Any new programs added recently which coincided with the slow down?

I'm surprised. no problem in the hijack this log. When they returned from a trip, hadn't used the pc for a couple of weeks and on bootup the problem started. No new programs installed recently. I cleared the history, got rid of cookies and temporary internet files. Guess I'll do a checkdisk and defrag and see it that helps. Any other suggestions welcome.

Well I suppose you could ping the sites you're visiting to see if your ISP servers are slowing or something else on the network.

And aside from eliminating one program at a time to see which one could be slowing the system down, I can't offer any other suggestions. Perhaps one app updated unbeknowst to the user and is the culprit? Just a thought.

I'll be moving this thread to Windows XP, as it's unrelated to malware.
