My System

Start>Programs> question

WinXP, Home, Sp2

When trying to delete a program name from the program list, I will get
either:

1. Are you sure you want to remove this folder .......
OR
2. Removing this will effect every user ........

Some programs, when right-clicked and delete is selected shows #1
and others will show #2. What is the defining condition?

My concern is really for #1, will it really remove the folder?
I ask because i'm trying to cleanup the program listing, like removing all
the utility program entries (i have them all in a folder on the desktop).

thanks,
savagcl

Hi ... Why do you want to delete them ? why not just create a folder within the program area and place all the programs that you don't want in there , This way you will have a folder with whatever name you give it with all your programs and you can create more then one folder as well , To do this ? Easy way would be within the windows explorer

The defining condition is where the shortcut actually exists. "Removing this will effect every user ........' is where the shortcut is at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu.
The other message occurs when the shortcut is at C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu.

My System

Snooker,

Yes, I already have a folder on my desktop called "Utils", thats why i see
no need to have them in the program list.

Markp62,

That explains it, thanks for the info.
