Windows firewall

Okay here is the story....

one stormy night im at my computer and decide to change my firewall settings. so i go to control panel / Security Center. Then i get a lovely message =(

"The security center is currently unavailable because the "security center" service has not started or was stopped. please restart....and open again"

now i know i did not stop it cause i have no idea how to. I have also spent hours on the windows support site (HORRIBLE).

then i try another way left click on network connection and then go to windows firewall system and another lovely message.

"Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings"

after this one i took a long walk

-I have even tried the system restore and got nothing
-freind asked if it ever worked im sure it did
-I have norton anti virus and webroot spy sweeper (could be these)
-And i have sp2

pls help im close to formatting and reinstalling windows (as if thats going to be fun)'

and im new here so if this is in the wrok section just yell at me

Thanks in advance

ChrisCo - Welcome to the Board

Step back from the brink - you are nowhere near reformatting

First go to this article and follow the solution posted ....

Message "Security Center is currently unavailable" and work through that.

Post back with the result - good or bad

Is this the file you downloaded?....

wscsvc.reg

To run a .reg file doubleclick on it to merge into the registry - a dialogue box should appear asking if you want to merge - click Yes.

More than likely a reboot is necessary for a registry change at system level.

Dear ChrisCo -
Do yourself a big favor and get rid of the windows firewall alltogether. It stinks. The windows firewall will block somebody trying to acess your computer from the outside but it wont stop a program from illeagally trying to send data out of your computer (the other direction) !!!!!!!!!! Get a free Zonealarm or a Computer Assocaites (CA) Firewall. Protect Yourself.
