Desktop icons don't arrange by name alphabetically

I have read a few posts to this forum regarding desktop icons not arranging the way the user wanted but could not find anything on the following -

When I select "arrange icons by name" the icons are NOT displayed alphabetically which I would would happen.
This has probably be happening for some time but I only noticed the other day when I uninstalled Ulead Videostudio 8 and reinstalled it. The icon (of the same name used to be displayed after all other icons but now is displayed in the middle of all the other icons. I tried renaming it to ulead ... (lower case "u ") without any change.
Am I missing something or is this the way that Windows Xp works when "arrange icons by name" is selected?

Try selecting "arrange by type" instead of "arrange by name ". It will group the icons and alphabetize them within each group.

It's a nice way to put you icons where you want them.
